Senior Software Engineer
Company Information:

global telecommunications systems integrator specializing in satellite earth
terminals and network solutions.
Duties
and Responsibilities:
- Performing component development for DataPath’s current and future products.
Product development responsibilities include design, development, testing and
support of components that provide product functionality
- Designing effective and robust software to be used in network management and
control applications
- Working closely with other developers and quality assurance teams through
the software lifecycle, including requirements definition, development, testing,
deployment and support
- Managing the development, evolution and maintenance of client tier, middle
tier, business logic components, Web services and diagnostic and support tools
- Working as an effective team member. Participating in creating a can-do and
will-do ethos
- Communicating effectively with the company's product management, marketing,
engineering, quality assurance, support and sales personnel (and others) on
improvements to existing products and new product features that position the
business for a competitive advantage
- Assisting in implementing best practice product development processes that
will provide customers with solutions that meet their needs on an ongoing and
changing basis
- Ensuring software projects are completed on time, on budget and according to
quality standards
- Developing product design documentation based on product specifications
- Interacting with other departments to ensure effective, ongoing
communication
- Working with product management, quality assurance and customer support
throughout the testing process to ensure that defects are appropriately
addressed according to requirements and priority
- Keeping focused on the task at hand and suggesting improvements in
methodology as necessary
- Participating in multiple, concurrent product development team projects
- Cooperating with quality assurance, support, product management and program
engineering teams to quickly, rationally and reasonably respond to escalated
issues
- Developing, delivering and testing bug fixes, patches and service releases
- Responding to issues escalated to product development in a concrete and
effective manner
- Participating in bug, functional review and requirements triage
decision-making
- Performing product development and testing using the product in a manner as
close as reasonably possible to the scenarios in which customers and partners
will use the product
- Participating in analysis, definition and refinement of customer, business
and software requirements
- Designing, developing and bug fixing of software releases as defined in
project requirements
- Producing product documentation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent related
experience
- Six-plus years demonstrating very solid distributed software engineering
experience with significant involvement in developing commercial software
products and services
- Strong in Object Oriented Development, Multithreaded applications and
Internet-based technologies
- Track record of project execution to time and budget
- Thorough knowledge of software engineering processes and procedures and
general product development principles including program design, coding, testing
and debugging
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Knowledge of several operating systems including Windows Server Platforms,
especially Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 and Linux or Solaris
- Extensive experience with Java development tools including open source
libraries
- Experience designing and implementing algorithms, multithreading and
synchronization and performance optimization. Real-time programming experience
desirable
- Strong Java development skills along with experience in multiple programming
languages
- Experience in Web n-tier product development
- General relational database knowledge
- Proven ability to perform in a consultative manner with strong communication
skills (both written and verbal)
- Proven experience in product development, as well as a history of successful
software engineering projects. Experience to excel within smaller companies and
the ability to adapt to significant growth
- Ability to solve tactical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables while moving towards strategic company and product goals
- Process oriented
- Ability to participate in software methodology and processes
- Experience in performing software engineering for a major software product
or application through a number of revisions and performing the associated
processes such as user interface design, unit testing, problem tracking, triage
and defect correction.
